The Mystical Jesus: The Gospel of John
Most beloved of the four, the Fourth Gospel is often romanticized as a “gospel of love” and considered “very late” in the writing. The truth is more complex and interesting than that. John’s gospel presents Jesus as a Man who has been “divinized” through a this-life ascension into heaven and speaks of the struggle between light and darkness, spirit and flesh. His message combines mystical experience and psycho-social critique, assurance and condemnation, love and latent hate. Coming out of decades of reflection on Jesus’ words by an apostle and his disciples who were embattled by persecutors but faithful, it speaks powerfully about how to find peace in a troubled world. We read month by month, using provided study guides, then gather for invigorating discussion. Join us in our journey through Scripture!
