Director’s Mid-Week Forum Did Jesus Have a ‘Secret Teaching’? What Light Can the “Heretical” Gospels Shed on the New Testament? Did Jesus impart unwritten spiritual secrets to initiate disciples into mystical truths? Sayings like “if your eye is single your whole body will be full of light” seem to be expanded in Thomas. The implications of baptism may be revealed in “alternative” gospels like Thomas, Mary, or the Acts of John. Learn about the“marriage chamber,” the union of the angelic and earthly “Twins,” and the cosmic dance of Christ. A greater knowledge of second Temple Jewish mystical practice and early Christian teaching paint a whole new picture of what Jesus’ teaching may be all about, uniting social radicalism with mystical depth, community service with personal development—and revealing practical truths for your own spiritual growth. Education, Evolution and the Culture Wars An Issue for All Americans What’s the “evolution in schools” controversy all about—science or culture, facts or morality and the meaning in life? Most people think “science,” but the truth actually lies elsewhere. While schools in the Northeast are seldom troubled by lawsuits seeking to enthrone “creation science” or “intelligent design” as alternative scientific theories, the struggle over what can be taught in schools is nationwide. During this informative evening, you’ll be given insights into the concerns and fears that drive many Americans, including some people in New Jersey towns, to challenge the reigning secular cast of public education.
