The Director’s Wednesday Seminar Rediscovering Reverence: Recovering Our Sense of Awe, Respect, and Mutual Honor Are some of our current difficulties rooted in a decline in our capacity for “ordinary reverence” — awe in the face of beauty, respect for the integrity of others, civilities that protect personal borders, an honoring of body, self, society and nature? Using Paul Woodruff’s book Reverence: Renewing a Forgotten Virtue, we’ll explore the “habits of reverence” that are essential to every sphere of life, from education to the family, from politics to land management, from approaching the holy to every kind of love. Spring Retreat With Different Eyes: Learning and Doing the New Testament Overcome narrow thinking and broaden your reality by open-hearted engagement with the “living and elusive” texts of the New Testament. We will discover ways to “partner with the text,” balancing the whole and its parts and discovering dormant answers hidden in plain sight—while also recognizing that which lies behind the words and beyond our reach. The retreat setting will help us enter deeply into our own responses, with presentation, discussion, worship, and plenty of silence. All meals are provided; the retreat house features individual single rooms, shared baths and lovely grounds. Participants may choose to read Deirdre Good’s new book with Bruce Chilton, Starting New Testament Study: Learning and Doing. Co-sponsored by Christ Church in Short Hills Deirdre Good and Lisa Green Sat., Apr. 17, 3 p.m.-Sun., Apr. 18, 3 p.m. $155 ($140 Members) St. Marguerite’s Retreat House Mendham Register for this class Instructors Directions

Lewis’ Chronicles Discover the “discarded image” of medieval cosmology that C.S. Lewis wove into The Chronicles of Narnia to give his readers the chance to inhabit a livelier model of the universe as “a world lighted, warmed, and resonant with music,” a world of angels, daemons, and middle spirits. Lewis had a particular interest in this ancient worldview in which Earth was circled by seven planets, “spiritual symbols of permanent value,” each reflection a face of the Holy. Each Chronicle of Narnia is imbued with the spirit of one of these spheres. Join us as we take a new look at a beloved series and listen to the music of the spheres!
