Thinking On Thursdays (TOT) Series

A New Partnership  with Calvary Episcopal Church

The Cultural Politics of the Religious Right

The Christian Right stormed onto the scene in the late 70s, and has been an influential feature of American life ever since. What is the Christian Right?  Where did the movement come from?  What do “they” want for America? For the globe? Why have cultural matters, just as much as political strategy, been at the forefront of their agenda in the United States and beyond?  Professor J. Terry Todd will explore the Christian Right’s contemporary manifestations, its deep roots in the American past, and its possible futures.  Is a truce in the so-called “culture wars” possible? Is dialogue desirable with those whom some observers have called “Christofascists”? What spiritual resources can help us answer these questions as we move into an uncertain future?

Thursday, October 18

7:00-9:00 pm

Free and open to the public

J. Terry Todd, Ph.D is Associate Professor of American Religious Studies at Drew University.
