Social Venture Capital – actually profitable or mostly feel-good?
Hi everyone, I keep seeing more and more about “social venture capital” – investing in companies that try to solve social or environmental problems while still making money. Sounds nice on paper, but does it actually deliver decent returns or is it basically charity with extra steps? Any real experiences?

I’ve been allocating a portion of my portfolio to social venture capital for about 18 months now and I can say it’s definitely not just charity. The returns I’ve seen so far are in the 10–17% IRR range across a few funds – not unicorn-level explosive, but surprisingly stable even during market dips. What I like is that many of these companies have more predictable revenue (government contracts, NGOs, conscious consumers) which makes them less prone to hype crashes. You still need very good fund selection though – track record, real impact reporting, and reasonable fees matter a lot. I found a quite balanced review that compares several serious players in this space, including their transparency and actual payout history: https://www.uniindia.com/social-venture-capitalist-reviews-a-broker-with-transparent-conditions/press-releases/news/3730379.html. It helped me filter out the marketing-heavy ones and focus on managers who actually deliver. So far, I’m happy with the mix of return + purpose.
